04 / MICHAEL’S STORY · HOW IT STARTED
It was around seven o’clock. I wanted to go buy some cards, and there wasn’t a card shop open. My first thought was pretty simple: then I’ll open one.
But the more I thought about it, the bigger the idea got. I love cards. That doesn’t mean everybody in my family wants to stand around a card counter while I look through boxes. So why build a place where only one person is having a good time?
I wanted an atmosphere for everybody. Collectors, partners, kids, friends—the whole family. A place to eat, play games, watch sports and hang out. A bar and grill for the adults. Space for the kids and the trading-card crowd. You don’t have to collect a single thing to enjoy being there.
Watch the football game. Get your friends together for a fantasy draft. Play Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh! or Magic. Trade cards. Eat chicken wings. Rip a few packs. Find that signed Tom Brady helmet you’ve been wanting. That’s the experience I want to bring to San Antonio.
“Buy packs, buy a signed fucking Tom Brady helmet and call it a fucking day.”
And I want to bring athletes into that room, too. The goal is an athlete on the show every week—somebody you can meet, talk with, get an autograph from and spend time around. Being around athletes shouldn’t feel like some foreign experience. They’re people, too.
Right now, we’re building the community: the live shows, the conversations, the following of people who are into the same things. We started as Off the Rip. Fadeaway Rips is the next chapter of that same energy. Real talk. No filter. No bullshit.
The next step is a brick-and-mortar experience store in San Antonio, bringing the card shop, sports bar, grill, games and memorabilia together. We want to set a new standard for what an experience store in Texas can be. Then the long-term goal is to franchise that idea across the United States.
That’s where this is going. For now, pull up to a show, get to know the crew, and help us build the room you’ll want to walk into.
05 / THE NEXT CHAPTER
